Entering its 14th year, the Housing and Home Improvement Fair remains one of the most successful and well-attended community events in the South Minneapolis area. Free and open to the public, the Fair promotes city living, home improvement and maintenance, and community involvement.
The hallmark of the Housing and Home Improvement Fair is its vendor exhibits and educational workshops. Both are designed to help current and prospective homeowners in the process of improving, maintaining, enlarging, purchasing or refinancing a home.
The theme of the 2008 Housing Fair is Safe Homes / Safe Neighborhoods. The keynote seminar titled Home Security: Learn the 4 D’s - Deter, Deny, Delay & Detect will be held from 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and will be lead by SAFE Crime Prevention Specialist Karen Notsch from the Minneapolis Police Department.
Additional seminars will be offered by industry professionals from 1 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. on topics such as Home Electrical Wiring System Basics, and How to Select a Remodeling Contractor. All seminars and workshops are free and typically last between 60 and 90 minutes. Registration is not required.
The House of Pressure or HOP will be on display from 12:30 – 2:20 p.m. This five foot, see-through model home helps show how a typical house can operate with respect to safety, comfort, durability and efficiency. Presented by the Minnesota Building Performance Association, the HOP allows attendees to view a range of diagnostic tests and building science solutions to common home energy issues.
