We stand with you
Dear Beloved Neighbors & Community,
Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA) and Corcoran Neighborhood Organization (CNO) stand with our neighbors who are concerned and angry at the targeting of Minnesotans and escalation of activity from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis over the past couple of weeks. The increased federal presence is impeding our shared freedom to live, work, and attend school without fear of harm to ourselves, our neighbors, and family members. We condemn these acts of violence.
As our suffering, grief, anger, and other valid emotions ripple through our community, this moment is an undeniable opportunity for us to come together through collective strength and protect our neighbors, families, and loved ones.
Let us also reflect on our roles in promoting safety, love, and resilience within our communities. Each act of kindness, gesture of sharing knowledge, and commitment to protecting each other binds us together and makes us stronger against those causing harm.
Below is a list of resources we can use to foster the safe, vibrant, and inclusive community we all deserve. With humility, we acknowledge that this list is just a start to the work unfolding to protect each other:
MONARCA Rapid Response Line: Monarca MN hosts a hotline to report ICE activity, trains legal observers, provides support for families who are targeted, and offers web resources for individuals and workplaces. (612) 441-2881
Unidos MN: Know Your Rights Information, Advocacy for the revised and strengthened Minneapolis Separation Ordinance presented to the Minneapolis City Council on December 9th.
Immigrant Legal Resource Center: Advocates through its Red Card campaign, which provides information on the rights and protections available to all people in the U.S., regardless of immigration status.
Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC): A variety of resources for those who have special immigration status, have questions around food, workplace, or housing.
Immigrant Defense Project: Know Your Rights Infographics and resources for individuals wanting to know what to do when at home or on the street, in your car, when interacting with ICE, or if you are detained.
STOP ICE Network Nationwide Alert System: Send & Receive alerts about ICE raids and activity in your area. Stop ICE Alerts Network works with technology already built into your phone, without the need to download an app.
Join the many residents connecting through signal chats, checking in on one another, patrolling for ICE agents, and raising funds for families being targeted. Please be safe and kind to one another. We at PPNA and CNO welcome organizers interested in hosting Know Your Rights and Upstander training at our office, 3451 Cedar Ave S., to email us at info@ppna.org or info@corcoranmpls.org. Please also email us if you need help distributing advocacy materials or supplies, or if you have any additional ideas on how we can support our neighbors, together.
In Solidarity,
Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Organization
