Public Statement Issue Date: Friday, January 9th, 2026
Dear neighbors,
We are filled with outrage and grief over the senseless loss of our neighbor, beloved wife and mother of three, Renee Macklin Good. Renee was shot and killed near Powderhorn Park on Wednesday by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Portland Ave & E 34th St as a legal observer. Despite ICE’s claims of self-defense, we have seen with our own eyes the injustice of her killing as she attempted to flee. We also condemn armed ICE officers detaining, tackling, and deploying tear gas against children, teachers, and observers at Roosevelt High School.
Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA) and Corcoran Neighborhood Organization (CNO) stand united with our neighbors, demanding that ICE leave Minneapolis immediately and stop these horrifying acts of violence both in our neighborhood and across the country. We denounce the injustice and brutality inflicted on our community.
This is a reminder that our collective strength is far more powerful than the violence ICE is wreaking on our streets. Trust and stand with your neighbors and join us in protecting our loved ones. Protest, march, and attend vigils if you are able. Check in on one another, patrol your neighborhood, and raise funds for families being targeted. Amidst the intensity and action, take care of yourselves. Rest is a form of resistance that grounds us as we continue to protect each other over time. Show up when you can and be brave.
We at PPNA and CNO welcome organizers to use our office, located at 3451 Cedar Ave., to host trainings or gather for community meetings. Additionally, we may support the distribution of advocacy materials and supplies, and/or connect you to your hyperlocal Corcoran or Powderhorn neighborhood Signal chats... Please email info@ppna.org or info@corcoranmpls.org for inquiries about any of the above. We welcome any ideas on how we can support our neighbors.
