For the past four months, local artist Cori Lin (and PPNA part-time staff member!) has been working to illustrate the vibrant faces and stories of Powderhorn renters.
Cori is currently looking for a Powderhorn renter family who would be interested in being featured in this project!

El segundo retrato en la serie es Luis. Él ha vivido en un edificio de apartamentos en el sr de Minneapolis por los últimos 7 años. Después de haber hecho un cambio de vida espiritual cuando tenía 35 años, se ha esforzado mucho para construir la vida que tiene actualmente.

Hel nos ha enseñado las estanterías que ha construido y donde tiene toda su increíble colección de hierbas medicinales y utensilios para cocinar.
Luis se enorgullece de su gran conocimiento en remedios caseros que comenzó después de sufrir una enfermedad. Él es completamente autodidacta, y nos cuenta como en ocasiones las plantas pueden curar lo que los doctores americanos no pueden.
Luis también está muy orgulloso de mostrarnos sus nuevas ventanas, resultado de una larga batalla con su casero después de haber sobrevivido al frio, ventanas rotas y al mal funcionamiento de sus servicios básicos por años. Con la ayuda de Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia una organización local de derechos de inquilinos, Luis y sus vecinos exitosamente lograron que su casero hiciera mejoras a su edificio.
Luis ahora está participando activamente con Inquilinxs Unidxs, aprendiendo inglés y está muy comprometido con ayudar con sus vecinos.
Cori creara un total de 4 retratos para el proyecto de Las Caras de los inquilinos #RentersRightsareHumanRights y para el otoño estará abierto al público.

The second portrait in the series is of Luis. Luis has lived in Minneapolis, in a South Minneapolis apartment building for the last 7 years. After deciding to make a spiritual change when he was 35, Luis has worked hard to build his life as it is right now.
He showed us the shelves that he built to hold his huge collection of herbal medicines and cooking supplies. Luis prides himself on his intense study of home remedies that he began after suffering from illness. He is entirely self taught, and told us how sometimes plants can cure what American doctors cannot.
Luis also proudly displayed his newly installed windows, the result of a long battle with his landlord after surviving freezing, broken windows and non-functional utilities for years. With the support of Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia, a local tenants rights organization, Luis and his neighbors successfully pressured the landlord into making improvements to the building.
Luis now sits on the board of Inxquilinxs Unidxs, is learning english, and stays engaged in advocating for his neighbors.
Cori will be creating four portraits total for the Faces of Renting project for her #RentersRightsareHumanRights project that will be open this Fall.
