Livability & Safety

We desire a safe and livable neighborhood. Knowing your neighbors and supporting local businesses can help. We also believe more City, County, and State resources are needed to support communities disproportionately affected by crime.

How to Improve Safety on Your Block!

Spring is here, and we know warmer weather means more activity of all kinds in Powderhorn! While we love seeing the park busy with joggers, dog-walkers, sports, and more, sometimes the increased activity is the kind that makes neighbors feel less safe. We've heard over and over from our community that safety and livability are a huge priority. That's why it's one of the three pillars of our Resource-Centered Platform. While we are working on advocating for City resources to i

What are your Safety & Livability priorities?

This Tuesday, April 9th, the South Minneapolis Public Safety Coalition is convening a neighborhood meeting to align on our community's safety and livability priorities. We need your feedback to inform our upcoming request to the City to reallocate a $10 million budget surplus to invest in opportunity zones throughout South Minneapolis. The coalition wants to have a clear ask around how that money should be invested, and we've compiled some suggestions including: Join us on Ap

Share Your Thoughts: Advocate for healthy neighborhood organizations!

The purpose of neighborhood organizations is to empower community members to make priorities known, influence City decisions, and get involved in civic and community life (Minneapolis 2040). To ensure that neighborhood groups are able to do this well, we need to be adequately funded. If you missed it, the City is restructuring the way that neighborhood groups are funded. You can read more about what they’ve proposed and how PPNA is responding here. Tabitha Montgomery, PPNA Ex

    2018 In Advocacy

Looking Back 2018 saw a lot of momentum-building for PPNA’s advocacy work. We deepened our work in renters’ rights with the Minneapolis Renters Coalition (MRC) and surrounding safety efforts with the South Minneapolis Public Safety Coalition (SMPSC). We also remained active in community issues that came up throughout the year, like the development on the corner of Chicago and Lake. Here are some highlights from the past year. PPNA is reviewing community priorities and we need your voice at the table! Your input is vital to ensure we continue to focus on what matters to the community. Take a short six question survey and help shape how we work together. The deadline to complete the survey is Thursday, August 16th, 2018. Recap of the Minneapolis Renters Coalition Open House: An event hosted to bring issues of Powderhorn

PPNA is a proud partner of the Minneapolis Renters Coalition (MRC), together we worked to organize an open house, sharing the concerns of renters with the City Council, City staff, and other community partners. The MRC presented a listing of changes and solutions that address issues facing renters in our community. Lively discussion was had by attendees throughout the open house. A special thanks to the City Council Members who join us! And to our partners at the MRC! Communi
