City of Minneapolis: Chauvin Trial Updates

The City of Minneapolis has released new information, and some reminders as jury deliberations began for the trial of Derek Chauvin Monday, April 19th.

Who to call

  • If you need an immediate response from Police, Fire or EMS, call 911.

  • If you have information about suspicious activities, such as a vehicle circling your neighborhood without a license plate, leave a message on the MPD tip line at 612-673-5335.

  • For general questions about business operations, business and property owners can contact the Minneapolis Small Business Team by email at SmallBusiness@minneapolismn.gov or by leaving a voicemail at 612-673-2499.


City of Minneapolis Service Changes

The City of Minneapolis Service Center is closed to in-person services until further notice. Online services continue to be available. A drop-box is also available at the Elections & Voter Services Office located at: 980 Hennepin Avenue East, Minneapolis, MN 55414 Open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The drop box can be used for applications and payments for Minneapolis Development Review, Rental Licenses, Commercial Building Registrations, Fire Permits, and Utility Billing. Hennepin County Service Changes

Access to Public Safety Facility Modified During Final Phase of Derek Chauvin Trial

Public access to the PSF will be strictly limited while certain public services will be closed altogether. Please review the list below for information regarding access.

  • Posting bail

Property Pick-up/drop-off (after receiving approval to retrieve property from an inmate)

Public Safety Facility

401 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, Mn 55415

Hours of property pick-up are:

Daily between 7am – 10am

In the event that the Government Center/City Hall campus is locked down, report to GATE V on the corner of 5h Avenue & 5th Street. Tell the deputy/officer that you are here to pick-up a property item from an inmate at the PSF. Tell the deputy/officer the name of the inmate and the property item you are picking up. After verification, a deputy will escort you to the property pick-up/drop-off window inside the jail.

  • Placing funds on an inmate’s account

You can place money in an inmate account by going to the website www.accesscorrections.com and following the instructions on the website.

  • Medicine disposal

The medicine disposal site in the HCSO Public Safety Facility will be closed beginning April 19 – May 28. Please use other disposal locations throughout Hennepin County. Alternate disposal locations can be found at https://www.hennepin.us/medicine

  • The City is tracking information about Minneapolis businesses damaged April 11 to April 13. View a map of impacted businesses

  • Businesses that have experienced damage or loss should also reach out to their insurance companies. The MN Department of Commerce has a tip sheet for handing insurance claims in multiple languages. View the tip sheet
